Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading infectious diseases worldwide.
According to the WHO Global Tuberculosis Report, in 2023 an estimated 10.8 million people developed TB globally, and about 1.25 million people died from the disease, confirming that TB is still a major global health challenge.

The burden of tuberculosis is not evenly distributed. The WHO African Region accounts for roughly one quarter of global TB cases, where the impact of the disease is compounded by HIV co-infection, limited access to diagnostics, and constrained healthcare resources. Strengthening research, prevention, and access to care in Africa remains essential to reach the WHO End TB Strategy targets.

International research partnerships play a crucial role in this effort. The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) supports collaborative clinical research between Europe and Africa to develop new tools against tuberculosis, HIV, and other poverty-related infectious diseases.

On this World TB Day, we are proud to share that Revolution Worldwide has actively contributed to the latest EDCTP calls on tuberculosis, submitting two project proposals together with leading European and African institutions:

TB-SHIELD-WOMEN

These proposals aim to improve early detection of asymptomatic tuberculosis in order to enable more effective and timely treatment, and to strengthen protection for vulnerable populations, with particular focus on malnourished women and high-burden settings in Africa.

The fight against tuberculosis is not over.
Continued investment in research, international collaboration, and strong health systems is essential to achieve a TB-free world.
