R-Evolution Sierra Leone organize new missions to support orphanages against Coronavirus

The team of young volunteers of R-Evolution Sierra Leone has completed the renewal of the registrations at the ministries of Sierra Leone in order to organize new missions to reach the orphanages of the country and bring the initiative “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” where there is it is most needed.

Il team di giovani volontari di R-Evolution Sierra Leone ha completato il rinnovo delle registrazioni presso i ministeri della Sierra Leone al fine di organizzare nuove missioni per raggiungere gli orfanotrofi del paese e portare l’iniziativa “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” dove c’è più bisogno.

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at the Grace Village orphanage, Sierra Leone

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at the Grace Village children home, located at Tissana Russel village (rural area of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone). To prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as covid-19, the children of this orphanage have been provided with face masks and everything needed to wash their hands properly, including the most obvious but often also the least available.
The home was established Mary Bangura and her husband, after that in 2015 the Ebola outbreak claimed many lives, included parents, leaving children alone.

A special recognition goes to the team of volunteers: young women and men, brave enough to travel during the pandemic to reach orphanages in the remote rural area. Their extraordinary endeavour is attracting the interest of other African countries, and they will soon be called to share their experiences so that “Bubbles soap against coronavirus” can reach other orphanages in Africa.

L’iniziativa “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” è arrivata all’orfanotrofio di Grace Village, situato nel villaggio di Tissana Russel (area rurale di Freetown, capitale della Sierra Leone). Per prevenire la diffusione di malattie infettive come il covid-19, i bambini di questo orfanotrofio sono stati donate mascherine per il viso e di tutto il necessario per lavarsi le mani correttamente, incluso ciò che è più ovvio ma che spesso è anche il meno disponibile.
L’orfanotrofio è stata fondato da Mary Bangura e suo marito, dopo che nel 2015 l’epidemia di Ebola causò molte vittime, fra le quali spesso i genitori di bambini rimasti soli.

Un riconoscimento speciale va al team di volontari: giovani donne e uomini, così coraggiosi da viaggiare durante la pandemia per raggiungere gli orfanotrofi nella remota area rurale. Il loro straordinario impegno sta attirando l’interesse di altri paesi africani e saranno presto chiamati a condividere le loro esperienze in modo che “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” possa raggiungere altri orfanotrofi in Africa.

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at the Manaheim Children’s Home, located in Grafton (rural area of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone). To prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as covid-19, the children of this orphanage have been provided with face masks and everything needed to wash their hands properly, including the most obvious but often also the least available.
The home was established in the 1990s by Melrose Kamara, a philanthropist and a physically impaired woman who has passion for extremely vulnerable children affected by civil war in Sierra Leone.
Madam Melrose started out of nowhere, making her home available to help abandoned children, and in particular those with physical disabilities like her, since in fact these children are often neglected and sometimes abandoned because of their deformity.
Manaheim indeed is home to children that others have effectively been “thrown away”. Children here suffer also from epilepsy, mental health issues, encephalitis and polio: conditions widely misunderstood, stigmatized and feared by the communities in Sierra Leone.
Despite the enormous challenges faced during an entire life dedicated to the most vulnerable children rejected by society, madam Melrose still dreams of a brighter future for children with disabilities and that one day society will have a place to accept them and give them more meaningful lives as human beings.

 

L’iniziativa “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” è arrivata al Manaheim Children’s Home, situato a Camp Grafton (area rurale di Freetown, capitale della Sierra Leone). Per prevenire la diffusione di malattie infettive come il covid-19, ai bambini di questo orfanotrofio sono state donate mascherine per il viso e tutto il necessario per lavarsi le mani correttamente, incluso ciò che è più ovvio ma che spesso è anche il meno disponibile.
Il Manaheim Children’s Home è stata fondato negli anni ’90 da Melrose Kamara, una filantropa che, malgrado afflitta da disabilità fisiche si è dedicata da sempre ai bambini estremamente vulnerabili colpiti dalla guerra civile in Sierra Leone.
La signora Melrose iniziò dal nulla, mettendo a disposizione la sua casa per aiutare i bambini abbandonati, e in particolare quelli con disabilità fisiche come lei, poiché infatti questi bambini sono spesso trascurati e talvolta abbandonati a causa della loro deformità.
Il Manaheim ospita i bambini effettivamente “buttati via” da altri. I bambini qui soffrono anche di epilessia, problemi di salute mentale, encefalite e poliomielite: condizioni ampiamente fraintese, stigmatizzate e temute dalle comunità della Sierra Leone.
Nonostante le enormi sfide affrontate durante un’intera vita dedicata ai bambini più vulnerabili respinti dalla società, la signora Melrose sogna ancora un futuro più luminoso per i bambini con disabilità e che un giorno la società meglio accettarli come qualsiasi essere umano.

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at the Mercy Home for children, located in Waterloo, Benguema road (rural area of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone). To prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as covid-19, the children of this orphanage have been provided with face masks and everything needed to wash their hands properly, including the most obvious but often also the least available.
This orphanage was established by Alpha Bangura in 2006, inspired by his deep religiousness.

L’iniziativa “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” è arrivata alla Mercy Home for children, situata a Waterloo, Benguema Road (area rurale di Freetown, capitale della Sierra Leone). Per prevenire la diffusione di malattie infettive come il covid-19, i bambini di questo orfanotrofio sono stati dotati di maschere per il viso e di tutto il necessario per lavarsi le mani correttamente, incluso ciò che è più ovvio ma che spesso è invece il meno disponibile.
Questo orfanotrofio è stato fondato da Alpha Bangura nel 2006, ispirato alla sua profonda religiosità.

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at the Alisco Orphanage, located in Morabie road, Joe town, near Waterloo (rural area of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone), where, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as covid-19, the children have bee provided with face masks and everything needed to wash their hands properly.
This orphanage was established by Fatmata Alisco Kamara, who is a business woman. Fatmata is a woman who made her way into the business world with courage and tenacity, thus founding a supermarket chain. But Fatmata has not forgotten her roots, and with the same courage and tenacity, she started helping street children with food and clothes, and then building an home for them.

L’iniziativa “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” è arrivata all’Alisco Orphange, situato sulla Morabie Road, Joe town, vicino a Waterloo (area rurale di Freetown, capitale della Sierra Leone), dove, per prevenire la diffusione di malattie infettive come covid-19, ai bambini sono state fornite maschere per il viso e tutto il necessario per lavarsi le mani correttamente.
Questo orfanotrofio è stato fondato da Fatmata Alisco Kamara. Fatmata è una donna che si è fatta strada nel mondo degli affari con coraggio e tenacia, fondando una catena di supermercati. Ma Fatmata non ha dimenticato le sue radici e, con lo stesso coraggio e tenacia, ha iniziato ad aiutare i bambini di strada prima con cibo e vestiti, e poi costruendo una casa per loro.

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at the Children’s Redemption Orphanage Home, located in Matainkay Village, near Waterloo (rural area of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone), where, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as covid-19, the children were provided with everything needed to wash their hands properly, including the most obvious items but often also the least present.
This orphanage was founded by Frank Williams. Frank, orphaned himself, was forced to leave his native Liberia because of the civil wars of the ’90s. Refugee in Sierra Leone, Frank started helping other children who were left alone like him because of the wars, and over time he succesfully build the Children’s Redemption Orphanage Home.

L’iniziativa “Bolle di sapone contro il coronavirus” è arrivata al Children’s Redemption Orphanage Home situato a Matainkay Village, vicino Waterloo, (zona rurale di Freetown, capitale della Sierra Leone), dove il team di volontari locali, al fine di prevenire la diffusione di malattie infettive come il covid-19, ha fornito ai bambini in questo orfanotrofio tutto il necessario per lavarsi le mani correttamente, compreso il più ovvio ma spesso anche il meno presente.
L’orfanotrofio è stato fondato da Frank Williams. Frank, rimasto orfano lui stesso, fu costretto a scappare dalla sua natia Liberia a causa delle guerre civili degli anni ’90. Rifugiatosi in Sierra Leone, Frank iniziò ad aiutare altri bambini che erano rimasti soli come lui a causa delle guerre, e con il tempo riuscì a costruire il Children’s Redemption Orphanage Home.

The “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” initiative arrived at Heaven’s Home for Children, located in Joe town, near Waterloo (rural area of ​​Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone), where the team of local volunteers provided the children in this orphanage with all the necessary and the instructions to wash your hands correctly, in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including covid-19. This orphanage was founded by Mrs. Keptiyu Kanu. Since she was young, Keptiyu went to study in UK, far from her family remained in Sierra Leone, in a foreing land and with few or no friends. Feeling so lonely, Keptiyu promised herself as soon as she returned to Sierra Leone she would build a house for the lonely children. So she started to work and save money, and with the help of her family she created Heaven’s Home for Children.

“Soap bubbles against coronavirus” ready to start

The initiative “Soap bubbles against coronavirus” is at the starting blocks. In the coming days, the team of local volunteers in Sierra Leone will visit 8 orphanages in the rural area near the capital Freetown. The children in these orphanages, as well as their caregivers, will be provided with supplies and instructions for properly washing their hands, in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in these vulnerable communities, including covid-19.

Soap bubbles against coronavirus

Orphanages in low and middle income countries (LMICs) are particularly vulnerable to epidemics. In order to protect the hosted children from Covid-19, the local team of volunteers from R-Evolution Worldwide will visit some orphanages in the rural area of Freetown (capital of Sierra Leone, West Africa), to provide furnishings, materials, instructions and practical examples to improve hygienic prophylaxis against infectious diseases such as Covid-19. The initiative aims to involve children in the form of a game and for this reason it is called “Soap bubbles against coronavirus”. The intervention will start in the next few days and will be conducted under the supervision of the Government of Sierra Leone (Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender & Children’s Affairs).
